The twenty-third World Renewable Energy Conference kicked off today under the title “Meeting Climate Challenges, Adopting Renewable Energy, Achieving Carbon Neutrality”, organized by Kingdom University from January 13 to 16, in cooperation with the World Renewable Energy Council and the Ministry of Oil and Environment and with the support of Bapco Energies – the integrated energy group that leads the transformation of the energy sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Tamkeen.

With the participation of several local, regional and international academic institutions, experts and specialized professionals, with the aim of encouraging a fair energy transition, exchange ideas, experiences and explore opportunities for future cooperation and partnerships.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, stressed that the conference supports the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to consolidate its position and leadership in the field of renewable energy and sustainability, in line with global trends towards the transition to the new green economy.

His Excellency pointed out that the establishment of such conferences, exhibitions and specialized events in the Kingdom of Bahrain contributes to the continued preparation of specialized competencies in this field, praising in this regard the important role played by Kingdom University in supporting such research events and promoting scientific research in the Gulf region.

Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery CEO of Bapco Refining, the role of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, and Chairman of Bapco Energies in leading the transformation and innovation in the energy sector through a package of projects and partnerships, explains that national energy companies play a major and effective role in accelerating the energy transition, and emphasizing the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop the energy sector as a key pillar in achieving economic development and environmental sustainability.

He pointed out that this global gathering is a leading platform in the field of clean energy that reflects Bapco Energy’s commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at fulfilling the commitments of the Kingdom of Bahrain towards climate challenges and Achieving carbon neutrality.

Prof. Hassan Al-Hajhooj, President of Kingdom University, stressed that hosting and organizing the conference in cooperation with the World Energy Council comes in the context of Kingdom University’s endeavor to advance scientific research, and the university’s interest in supporting global efforts towards sustainable energy, explaining that the conference will discuss several scientific axes in the fields of environmental sustainability, renewable energy projects, carbon neutrality and other related axes, and this event is a vital platform for exchanging ideas and innovations in the field of renewable energy.

It is noteworthy that the 23rd World Conference on Renewable Energy includes 16 scientific sessions and 3 accompanying workshops and addresses 12 vital axes, in addition to accompanying workshops in various fields such as renewable energy, saving consumed energy, climate challenges, sustainable environment, in addition to carbon neutrality, and green architecture.
