In a new achievement reflecting the excellence of its academic staff and students in the fields of innovation and technology, Kingdom University – Kingdom of Bahrain secured fourth place in the “UniThon 2026” competition, organized by King Faisal University alongside the Fifth International Conference on Computing and Artificial Intelligence, with the participation of more than 35 teams from local and international universities, after successfully passing the initial selection stage.

The university was represented in the competition by a team consisting of Dr. Hassan Al-Lawati and student Fawaz Al-Bahri, who presented an innovative project titled: “Smart Parking System to Enhance Safety and Security within the University Campus.”

The project addresses one of the most prominent challenges faced by universities, namely traffic congestion and the difficulty of finding parking spaces, by developing an intelligent system that directs vehicles in real time to the nearest available parking spot, thereby reducing search time, improving traffic flow, and enhancing safety and security levels within the campus.

The project also supports more efficient management of emergency routes by organizing vehicle movement and facilitating rapid access in emergency situations, which enhances the campus’s readiness to handle various operational conditions.

In addition, the project places special emphasis on environmental sustainability by reducing unnecessary vehicle movement within the campus, contributing to lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and improving overall environmental quality.

Kingdom University expressed its sincere appreciation and recognition of the efforts of Dr. Hassan Al-Lawati for his distinguished academic supervision and significant role in guiding the team and developing the project, which had a major impact on achieving this honorable accomplishment.

This achievement reaffirms Kingdom University’s commitment to supporting innovation, encouraging applied research, and enhancing the participation of students and faculty members in scientific and technological forums, in line with modern trends toward digital transformation and sustainability.

“UniThon 2026” is considered a leading platform that brings together innovators and creatives to develop practical technological solutions that contribute to improving university life, and this edition witnessed a high level of competition and creativity among participating teams.
