Under the title of the role of engineering and design in achieving sustainable development goals, the College of Engineering and Design at the university organized the fourth annual forum, where the forum hosted modernizers with academic and industrial expertise in the field of sustainable cities and community development.
Dr. Ashraf Suleiman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design at AUC, stated that the forum discussed the most important topic of sustainable cities and communities as the most important goal of sustainable development related to architecture and civil engineering.
The forum included the opening speech of the President of the University, Professor Hassan bin Rafdan Al-Hajouj, who praised the efforts of the college in organizing the forum and stressed the importance of linking academic and research programs with international and national plans for sustainable development.
Dr. Huda Al-Madhoub, Head of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Bahrain, spoke about the experience of the University of Bahrain in integrating the SDGs into engineering education programs.
Prof. Islam Al-Ghunaimiye also presented a lecture on research experiences in the use of modern technology in architectural heritage preservation projects to achieve sustainability of historical facilities.
Then Mr. Hacisa Denimbra, Director of the Academic Department and a representative of Green Innova, gave a lecture on the development of solar energy systems to comply with the design thought of students and engineers.
The forum concluded with a lecture by Dr. Ahmed Abdel Qader, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Unaizah College, Saudi Arabia, on modern chemical treatments for concrete, which contributes to the sustainability and long-term preservation of concrete structures.
