Acting Dean - College of Architecture Engineering and Design

After having an academic career in different parts of the world, I have found that the College of Architecture Engineering and Design at KU is exceptional. The College includes academicians from different regions with different culture and background; such a diversity contributes to enhancing the education process and learners’ experience. Globalization is one of the main challenges in the field of architecture and design; it is always a struggle to meet modern developments without losing the essence of our culture and identity. Another major challenge is the rapid development of science and technology, expansion of human habitats, and the way these affect our life. This brings us to the issue of sustainability— reconciling between the developments we desire and the resources that we consume so as not to put the needs of the future generations at risk. The programs at the College of Architecture Engineering and Design tackle these challenges in instilling an inherent sense of responsibility to serve the society best through designing and managing the built environment. We educate our graduates on the principles of design, enabling to address the issues of globalization, technology and sustainability, on way to becoming a problem solver. We aspire to acquire new knowledge through research that lays the foundation of teaching that encourages critical thinking in order to produce a new brand of professionals. Juxtaposition of Bahrain in the center of the Arabian Gulf and on the historic trade routes that helped to assimilated culture and knowledge from all over the world, added value and attraction for the place, and benefits the programs too. I am delighted to have joined the College, and to have added KU as part of my career.

College Vision

The College envisions becoming a distinguished leader in education and research in the fields of Architecture and Design, catering to the needs of local community in order to enhance the quality of its built environment.

 College Mission

The College mission is to provide architecture and design education by combining both theory and practice in order to prepare the students to embark upon the challenges of the distinct and competitive career, locally, regionally and internationally. The College also commits to conducting applied-research that responds to the most urgent needs of people in everyday built environment and design issues.

College Core Goals

The College aims to provide an education of the highest quality, in order to produce graduates capable of carrying the responsibilities of developing the country, and serving society by using the latest knowledge and developments in engineering, technology and sciences. It offers programs that combine both theoretical and practical studies, in order to achieve international and local standards by:

  •  Providing a high quality student-oriented education
  •  Linking education and training with the practical realities
  •  Undertaking study and research that have national and international dimensions
  •  Preparing the graduates to contribute to the community in a planned manner 
  •  Meeting the students’ needs through the development of curricula content aligned with international and national standards
  •  Developing teamwork, collaboration, leadership and communication skills of the students
  •  Developing relevant skills of the staff through training and other programs.

The College seeks certain attributes in all its graduates that are an important part of the academic framework within which the programs are situated. It aspires to produce graduates with:
